This page is for anyone looking for a rowing club in Argentina, whether you live there or are visiting Buenos Aires with a week to spare. The scene is old and unusually concentrated: Tigre, in the Paraná Delta, holds sixteen rowing clubs by the count in a Buenos Aires provincial law, and a 1973 presidential decree named it the “Cuna del Remo Argentino”, the cradle of Argentine rowing. Many clubs line Paseo Victorica, and La Marina’s members still cross the river by the club launch.

How rowing is organised
The national body is the Asociación Argentina de Remeros Aficionados (AARA), which sets the official calendar. Its forerunner, the Asociación Argentina de Remo, dates from December 1901 and six clubs. We couldn’t reach an AARA website to read a current affiliate list, so the table draws on club sites and published regatta lists.
Below that sit regional groupings. Rosario clubs formed the Asociación Rosarina de Remo in 2024, and its promotional championship gives beginners of any age straight races over 250, 500 and 1,000 m.
Competitive crews in Tigre train on the Pista Nacional de Remo on the Canal Aliviador of the Reconquista river. Tigre’s mayor criticised the state of that river in 2022.
Season and main regattas
- Late summer: a long-distance race run by Paraná Rowing Club opened the AARA calendar in February 2021.
- March: the Regata Internacional de la Vendimia in Mendoza reached its 80th edition on 7 and 8 March 2026, with 15 clubs from Argentina, Chile and Paraguay.
- September: Tigre’s Fiesta del Remo brings 14 local clubs together, with parades on the water (2022 report).
- Late October to November: the national championships, held at the Pista Nacional. One recent senior eights final ran on 28 October, with Buenos Aires Rowing Club taking the overall title, and a 2023 report called the nationals the last regatta of the year.
- Long-distance: Rosario runs seven travesía races a year over 19 to 27 km.
Joining as a visitor
These are members’ clubs, usually with tennis, a pool and a social side, so rowing tends to come with general membership. None of the club pages we read describes a visitor or short-stay category, so write before you travel.
Buenos Aires Rowing Club asks for an interview, a guided tour and board approval, and explains fees during the visit. New members over 20 get five individual rowing classes. It’s a practical first contact for English speakers, because its site has an English version. La Marina publishes a membership application form. A 2022 report also mentions a municipal rowing school, the Escuela Municipal de Remo de Tigre, which is worth asking about if you don’t want to join a club.
Expect to do most of this in Spanish. If you’re also weighing up Mexico City, see our guide to rowing clubs in Mexico.
How to pick a club in Argentina
- Pick by the sort of rowing you want. Rowing Club Argentino and La Marina both run travesía (long-distance touring) as well as official crews, which suits adults who don’t want to race 2,000 m.
- Check for an island crossing. La Marina is on the far bank of the Luján, reached by its launch, so check the launch and boathouse hours. They vary by season.
- Ask about wooden boats if that’s your interest. Buenos Aires Rowing Club keeps more than 130 cedar boats.
- Check the community link. Several clubs grew from immigrant communities, and Hacoaj offers membership discounts linked to Jewish community schools and networks. Ask whether that shapes who joins.
- Outside Buenos Aires, Rosario is the obvious alternative. Regatas Rosario has sent more local athletes to the Olympics than any other club in the city, and eight clubs entered the 2025 promotional championship. Planning a longer South American trip? Frequently asked questions
Where do most Argentine rowers train?
Tigre, north of Buenos Aires, is the centre. A Buenos Aires provincial law counts sixteen rowing clubs there and says half of the national association's events are held in the town. Rosario on the Parana and Mendoza are the other main centres.
What is the oldest rowing club in Argentina?
Buenos Aires Rowing Club, founded on 16 December 1873. Club de Regatas La Marina followed in 1876 and is described as the second oldest still active.
Can a beginner join a rowing club in Tigre?
Yes. Buenos Aires Rowing Club, La Marina, Rowing Club Argentino and Hacoaj all list a rowing school, but membership usually comes first. Buenos Aires Rowing Club asks applicants for an interview, a tour and board approval, and gives new members over 20 five individual classes.
